Dr. Shanita Brown, a dynamic speaker, counselor educator and licensed trauma therapist is a dedicated advocate for transforming conversation surrounding intimate partner violence, with a particular focus on the intersectional experiences of Black women, and mental health wellness. With over 15 years of experience in the clinical mental health field, she brings a wealth of expertise to her roles as counselor, educator, consultant and trainer.
Dr. Brown's commitment to breaking the silence on intimate partner violence and promoting mental health wellness is evident in her multifaceted approach. Through her platform, she strives to raise awareness through education, empowerment and inspiration.
Servant Leadership in Action
Dr. Brown’s extensive service includes work with the N.C. Domestic Violence Commission Taskforce, SafeSpace Agency and most recently served on the Board of Directors for The N.C. Coalition Against Sexual Assault.
Dr. Brown has received various recognition and awards in honor of her service to the community and profession. In 2021, Dr. Brown was the recipient of the Jane E. Myers
Wellness in Counseling Award by the North Carolina Counseling Association. In 2016, Dr. Brown was named the recipient of the Achievement Award at the Inaugural Black Mental Health Symposium because of her passion and commitment to educate interfaith communities about the prevalence of domestic violence. Additional recognition includes 2014 SACES Emerging Leader in Counselor Education and a 2014 National Board Certified Counselor Minority Fellow for her dedication to serving underserved communities. Dr. Brown currently serves as President Elect-Elect of the North Carolina Counseling Association.
